We had bought a Condor backpack a few years ago from a local Army Surplus store, and when we got it home we realized that it smelled bad. That was a pretty nice setup since we were grabbing water and bug-spray non-stop that weekend. Using some Blackhawk Speed Clips we attached a Maxpedition Cocoon Pouch which held a bottle of Badger Balm Anti-Bug Spray to the PALS webbing in the front of the pouch.
A detail we overlooked at first, and we had to improvise a loop with some paracord - eventually settling for clipping the Keyper quick release hook to the outside of a pack. It did soften up over time but it took about three-dozen open/closes to do so.Īlso, it didn't come with any way to attach itself to our belts or include a shoulder strap. It's difficult to open with one hand, which is usually how we were doing it. That tough material causes one issue in this case - it makes the zipper to open the pouch-top a little stiff. You can just feel it in the material when you pick it up. If you turn a Maxpedition product and a similar Condor product inside out you'll see the difference. Much of the cost built into the offerings from these fine companies is labor cost.) (Here's a hint - we all marvel at the cost of products from Frost River and Duluth. Since most of their production is done in Taiwan I can't imagine what their products would cost if they were made in the US and the cost of US labor was built into these products. Maxpedition employs some extremely talented sewing machine operators and clearly has some rigid QC in-place. Much of what you pay for with Maxpedition is the quality of the construction. For nylon tactical gear the only other civilian manufacturer I've seen that matches Maxpedition quality is Camelbak. Maxpedition construction techniques are top-tier, right up there with MILSPEC construction done by experienced DoD field equipment contractors like Specialty Defense Systems.
